The Alban Institute, a church leadership/growth consulting group, recently published an article on Church Mission: What Happens when the Mission Changes? In the article, discussion is given to the congregation's ability and willingness to go against historic mission imperatives in favor of newly emerging ones. Going against the institutional memory can be difficult and feel threatening, but living with an outdated mission may lead to death.
